Recently, a lot of you have asked if the blog (and the trip) are still happening. And those questions have not been without merit, as I just realized it's been almost a month since my last post!

The short answer is yes (on both counts) ... But it may yet be a little while longer before I post again (or check any other states off the list). For context, the camp counselor gig I mentioned in my most recent post lasted a bit longer than the 1 week I expected it to - in fact, it's ongoing (after the first session another counselor quit and I offered to fill in; the session after that another counselor had to leave unexpectedly and I again offered to fill in). I'm not sure if I'll end up staying the whole summer here at camp, but I think there's a good chance I will as I've found a home here and have come to the realization that there's no need to rush through the odyssey - it's ok if it takes a few months longer than expected and if I need to remap the itinerary a few times. I've called it an odyssey as it's meant to be a circuitous wandering rather than a direct course - extending my stay at camp feels like the best way to remain true to the spirit of this trip.

The good news is that I've had plenty of experiences - and met plenty of people - worth writing about here at camp. So when I do finally have a good 4-5 hours to sit down, there should be some high quality content coming. In the interim, as I know some of you are anxiously awaiting my next installment, please enjoy this reflection on blacksmithing that I wrote for camp's blog - I had an editor for this one, so you can expect it to be much more concise than usual.

  1. Kevin,
Your enthusiasm towards staying at the camp really speaks volumes. Hold true to what an odyssey really means my friend.
