I'm currently sitting in a Waffle House in the Indiana suburbs of Louisville, praying that the rain stops. I was originally planning to go to Red River Gorge today, but the forecast is showing heavy rain all day.  Before I started this trip, I said I wouldn't drive in the rain. Three days in and I've driven in the rain everyday. Riding in the rain sucks for the first 30 minutes, but once your boots are waterlogged and you realize you can't get any wetter, it actually gets easier to keep going, and you can settle into a decent rhythm as long as you have a good play list bumping. Reflections from My First Day of Retirement

In one sense I’m starting this blog too early; in another I’m far too late. When I first decided to take this trip (about 4 years ago), I figured the blog would start when the trip did, serving as a chronicle of the places I see and the people I meet. But about 8 months ago, I was opening up to a friend about the hang ups and roadblocks that had delayed this trip, and he convinced me that those challenges might be more impactful to share than the trip itself – the journey to get to the journey if you will. Photos and stories of someone doing something epic are cool but tend to feel disconnected and distant from our daily lives. Seeing an average person make an intentional choice for adventure over comfort might just give someone else the nudge they need to take a leap and make a big life change.  Following that conversation, I went home and typed up half a draft blog post then proceeded to sit on the idea for the next 8 months because “life got busy”. Big Admin Update: Email Notifications Are Live

Hey Y’all - As I’ve been finding my way across this beautiful country, I’ve also been finding my way on how to make a blog work. While I haven’t been able figure out how to get google to start putting ads on my blog (a win for all of you but a loss for me), how to set up and transfer GoPro footage (I know - this is really a laziness issue), or how to get my iCloud photo album linked (an iCloud issue), I have figured out some other things that may impact how you choose to interact with this blog going forward.  Since I started this blog, many of you have been asking if there is a way to sign up for email updates, and the answer has always been a resounding “I don’t know”.  Until now.  Well actually, until about a month ago - I figured it out a few weeks back and added the option to the site, but it appears that nobody but me has discovered where the link to subscribe is.
